Freedom in Christ

This path walks through the biblical foundation of freedom in Christ: what Jesus accomplished at the cross, what it means to be a new creation, and how disciples learn to live in the liberty Scripture describes. Freedom is rooted in Christ and grows through abiding in Him, truth, obedience, and life in the Spirit.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

John 8:36 (KJV)

Study Steps

Colossians 2:13-15Galatians 5:1Romans 6:6-72 Corinthians 5:17

Read each passage carefully. Paul uses legal and military language to describe what happened at the cross. Christ did not merely offer forgiveness. He cancelled the record of charges against you, disarmed the powers that stood against you, and made you a new creation. Note which words or phrases stand out as you read.

Reflection

What does it mean to you personally that Jesus nailed the record of your sins to his cross? How does the image of the new creation in 2 Corinthians 5:17 apply to something specific in your life right now?

Prayer

Father, I thank You that Jesus did not leave the work of my freedom incomplete. At the cross He cancelled every charge against me, disarmed every power that stood against me, and made me a new creation. I choose to receive what He purchased. I am no longer defined by my past. I am defined by what Jesus has done. Teach me to walk in that reality daily. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Gospel Connection

Hebrews 2:14-15 says Jesus took on flesh and blood so that through death he might destroy the one who had the power of death and deliver those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong bondage. Freedom in Christ is the direct result of his death and resurrection, not a technique or a mindset.

The Whole Bible Connection Engine is built on the conviction that every part of Scripture speaks to every other part. Read widely. The connections are in the text.
